Office

Secretary & Technical Coordinator, Information and Library Science Student Association

About the Candidate and Platform

Hey everyone! I’m Cait, and I would love to serve y’all as secretary and technical coordinator next year! I received my B.A. in Literary Arts from Brown University, where I was a transfer student peer counselor and helped plan orientation welcome events similar to the ones put on by ILSSA. I’ve also honed my administrative, marketing, and event planning skills by working in the nonprofit sector for the past three years, first at a social services agency in Atlanta and then at a nonprofit in Carrboro.

As the ILSSA secretary and technical coordinator, I would strive to continue the awesome work done by ILSSA this year. First, I would make an effort to plan events that are welcoming and inclusive to the broad range of students that SILS attracts. Transportation can be a barrier, so I would work to arrange carpools for weekend and out-of-the-way events. I would also love to encourage more informal collaboration between information science and library science students, and between undergrads, master’s students, and ph.d. students in SILS. Additionally, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know grad students in other programs on UNC’s campus, and I would work to partner with some of the other great graduate programs on this campus. Finally, I would always be open to ideas and suggestions from new students and second years!

Thanks so much for reading, and for considering me for this position!
