IMPROMPTU ANNOUNCEMENT:

In light of the news about the merger between the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) and the School of Data Science and Society (SDSS) to create a new school with an artificial intelligence focus, ILSSA has created a Qualtrics survey to gather the sentiments, concerns, comments, and questions from SILS students so that we can best advocate for the student body: https://go.unc.edu/SILSspeaks

Upcoming events:

  • ILSSA is currently working to plan an in-person meeting on October 10, 12-2pm in Manning Hall 208 for the SILS student body to gather and formalize their thoughts on the news.

Past events:

  • Dean Jeffrey Bardzell will be available to meet with students and answer questions at 4pm, October 9, in the SILS Library
  • ILSSA is dedicating this weekly TRU happy hour to being a space for students to be together in community. This starts at 5pm, street address 114 Henderson St, Chapel Hill.

The officers of ILSSA are the liaisons between SILS students and faculty, SILS alumni, and the GPSP. We are an organization run by students for students!

ILSSA strives to:

  • Provide feedback to SILS faculty and staff that accurately reflects the sentiments of the student body
  • Organize social events to build an inclusive cohort for all SILS students
  • Facilitate activities to connect students with faculty and staff
  • Help new students successfully transition into SILS by providing peer mentorship and guidance

Who can join?

Membership in ILSSA is open to all students enrolled at the School of Information and Library Science. Any SILS student of any level, part-time or full-time, from any background or area of interest is welcome! By being a student, you’re already a member of ILSSA.
