May 16, 2018 | 1:30 pm

Please joins us for a special presentation by Kathy Carbone on May 16 at 1:30 pm in Manning Hall 01.

Reaching Out: Connecting and Engaging Arts and Humanities Faculty and Undergraduate Students with University Archives
In recent years, pedagogical approaches for authentic learning contexts and increased literacy of various kinds have called for more integration of primary sources into undergraduate education in many different fields. University archives and archivists can play important roles in supporting these pedagogical aims. However, faculty and students may not be aware of an institution’s archives, the availability of archival materials and relevancy of them to their academic work, and that archivists are important educational resources. Archival outreach—a core archival function—is one of the ways in which college and university archivists can connect faculty and students and their learning endeavors with archives. To help prepare MSLS students to do outreach in an academic setting, in this class we will explore the nature and role of outreach in college and university archives and develop and articulate strategies for reaching out to arts and humanities faculty and undergraduate students.
