Secretary, Association for Information Science and Technology

About the Candidate and Platform

For those I don’t have the pleasure to know yet, my name is Rachel Anne Spencer and I’m a first-year graduate student at SILS. I had the privilege of completing my undergraduate degree in Information Science here, graduating with honors, and participating in the BS-MS dual degree (which allowed me to knock a semester’s worth of Master’s credits out ahead of time). As a student, I am currently enrolled in mostly Youth Services Librarianship classes, but am planning to take several of the required classes for the MSIS next semester, as I’m considering switching tracks. I am most interested in user experience and HCI, but I look forward to immersing myself in information science and learning more about all the various specializations and the types of work SILS alumni do.

It would be a pleasure to serve as secretary of ASIST. I love organizing information and have lots of experience with the written word as I minored in creative writing, wrote for my local newspaper as a teenager, and served as secretary of Alamance Community College’s Spanish Club. If elected, I would send out timely information before and after meetings and strive to produce thorough, but easily digestible newsletters on a regular basis.
