President, Student Chapter of the Society of American ArchivistsAbout the Candidate and Platform
My name is Morgan Healy and I am happy to nominate myself for the position of President for the Student Chapter of the Society of American Archivists. I am currently a first year SILS student at UNC with a specialization in Archives and Records management. I graduated from the university of Colorado, Boulder in 2011 with a degree in Anthropology. While receiving my education, I held a position at the University museum archiving the fossilized eggshell collection. Since then, I have had several management positions in Product Development and volunteered part time at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles working with the dinosaur fossil collections. I am passionate about archives and collections and plan to someday manage a large collection at a museum. I currently have an internship at the US EPA Library.
As president, I will do my best to align the student chapter with the goals and mission of the Society of American Archivists. I will make it my duty to advocate for the archives and their archivists, enhance profession growth of the students at UNC, stay on the pulse of the ever changing archival field, and work to meet the needs of our members. Student engagement will be of the utmost importance. Social media and public awareness campaigns will be a main aspect of the upcoming year. I strive to promote archives, Libraries, and Museums to the students, and allow an open discussion space for addressing problems and advancements in our field. I want to have an innovative and creative approach to the archival field and think towards the future.
With my experience in management, I believe I will be a great candidate to monitor and supervise the Secretary, Treasurer, and Web Master in the chapter. We will work together to create a fun and productive environment for our future archivists. Thank you for your consideration.
