The committee met and reviewed the course requirements for doctoral students, the software and workflows for reviewing their applications, and plans for an admitted student day.

The committee met once to discuss feedback from this year’s doctoral cohort about our recruitment techniques. The committee resolved to continue early contact with advisors and modifying how we conduct admitted student day. The committee discussed numerous options to increase applications from individuals already working in the field, focusing on listservs and local business. We also determined the need for a brief summary document of classes that meet course requirements for doctoral students and which classes are only available to doctoral students.

The committee met on September 20th for the first time of this academic year. During this meeting, we reviewed our agenda and scheduled additional committee activities related to the doctoral program application process. The committee discussed last year’s doctoral program recruitment strategies extensively and will reach out to this year’s cohort of Ph.D. students for feedback. Finally, the committee considered what activities could be organized to support faculty and student research at SILS.
